SPOTTED CHORUS FROG
Pseudacris clarki
Description - Body 3/4 - 1 1/4 inches (1.9 - 3.2 cm). Coloration is grayish brown with patches of bright green edged in black. Usually there is a green triangle located between the eyes. Underside of the frog is white and plain.

Voice - A rasping trill "wrrank - wrrank - wrrank" rapidly repeated 20 - 30 times. Two males calling together sounds like rapid sawing noise. This frog calls any time of the year but is most common after a rain.

Habitat - Prefers wet grasslands and prairies. Can sometimes be found in vegetation around water courses, ponds and lakes.

Breeding - Breeding can occur at anytime of the year in the southern part of its range. Breeding increases after heavy rains.

Range in Texas - Can be found in the entire State except far west and east Texas.

Notes - This frog becomes inactive during dry weather. Even during times of rainy weather this frog can rarely be seen during the daylight hours.
