NIGHT HIKE
at
BRAZOS BEND STATE PARK

Why:

  • To learn about the nighttime at BBSP.
  • To discover how the darkness is utilized by the park's wildlife.
  •  To understand how animals as well as ourselves, use senses other than sight
  • To have fun!

When:

  • Reservations can now be made for both Friday and Saturday evenings through March. (weather permitting)
  • 7p.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. (recommended arrival time 6:30 p.m.)
  • November 2, 2007 – March 29, 2008

Where:

  • Brazos Bend State Park
  • Hikers will meet at Park Headquarters
  • Actual hike location will be determined at HQ. Group will carpool to hike location.

What:

  • Hike will be approximately 1⁄2 to one mile along darkened trails
  • Wear appropriate clothing
    • Closed toed shoes (rubber boots if trails are muddy.
    • Long pants, coats, jackets as needed.
  • Insect repellent will probably NOT be needed, but is your choice.
  • Flashlights with lenses covered with red cellophane, red cloth, ...

Who:

  • Available to General Public
  • Scout Groups,
  • Church groups
  • Not suitable for children under 6 years of age.
  • Maximum number  - 15 participants/ per hike
  • Minimum number - 5 participants/ per hike

How

  • RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE! (no later than: 12:00 noon the day of the hike)
  • No ” Walk Ins”  please!
  • Call park headquarters (979-553-5101) to make reservation (8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday – Thursday)
  • Name, Address, Telephone numbers for contact , number of participants
  • Hike fee:  $5.00 per person 7 - 12years old
  • Hike fee:  $9.00 per person 13 years old and up (includes park entrance fee)
  • Pre-pay for reservation, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Checks, accepted.
  • 48 hr notice of cancellation prior to hike is required for a refund.
  • Rescheduling will occur in the event of heavy rainfall. Call to confirm if hike is cancelled due to rain.
  • Below minimum hikes will be rescheduled to meet minimum.
  • Participants MUST call and confirm if hike has achieved minimum by 12:00 noon, the day of the Hike.

information and interpretive programs and to assist in the care and conservation of the Park.
